Amagi-san Zuido Tunnel (Old Amagi Tunnel)

The Amagi-san Zuido Tunnel is the first tunnel in Japan which was constructed using only stones.
It is the longest stone-built tunnel of all existing tunnels in Japan.
In 2001, it was designated as an important cultural asset by the government, making it the first tunnel in the country to be designated.
Although 100 years have passed since its opening, the superb craftsmanship of the Meiji period (1868-1912) can still be seen.
