Daiho Hachiman Shrine

It began in the first year of the Daiho (Taiho) Era (701 AD), when Fujiwara Tokitada solicited the construction of Usa Shrine in Tsukushi.
An inscription written in an old sutra of the Tendai Sect says, "In the third year of the Jisho Era (1179 AD), the 36th of the sexegenary cycle July 22nd, book of hours at Hitachi, Shimotsuma Hachiman Shrine," so we can see that Hachiman faith was already widespread in the late Heian Period.
