Hirano-tenmangu-shrine

Hirano-tenmangu-shrine enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, a god of learning and literature, and Susanoo no Mikoto, a god of bravery, medicine, industry, and an abundant harvest.
“Amano iwato kagura” has been passed down since the Edo era (1603-1868) as a kagura dedicated to gods. Performers dress in the costume of lionesses and dance while pressing their knees together, just like women.
At the annual festival on July 14 and 15, a portable shrine is carried around the Hirano area, and “Amano iwato kagura” is performed on the streets.
