Asagimadara (chestnut tiger) no Sato

A chestnut tiger butterfly is a large butterfly having light blue wings with beautiful patterns on them. It is well known that the butterfly migrates a long distance even as far as the Nansei Islands and Taiwan.
Here, Miyada-mura is also a stopping point for the chestnut tiger butterfly.
Thoroughwort flowers smell nice and therefore used to be used as the contents of scent bag in the past.
On this site, about 4,000 thoroughwort flowers are planted as “Asagimadara no Sato (Home of Chestnut Tiger Butterfly)” to make use of them for natural education and sightseeing.
Around September, the peak month of their migration, a swarm of chestnut tiger butterflies come flying at this site in pursuit of honeydew.
