"Tamagawa no watashi", a ferryboat service in the Tamagawa river, lasted from the Edo period (1603-1868) to the modern era as an important transportation mode connecting Yanokuchi / Suga on the opposite bank of the Tamagawa river and Chofu city.
"Tamagawa no ikadanagashi" is a log ferry service said to have reached its peak of services from the end of the Edo period to the 1890s, playing a significant role to transport logs, such as cedar and cypress, cut down in the mountains of Okutama.
The calm riverbed of the Tamagawa river provides a glimpse into a track of history.
