Nakamachi Kurobe

During the short period from the Taisho era to the post-war period, Hachioji prospered as a center for weaving, and the town of Nakamachi was home to the Tama region's premier geisha quarter.
As the textile industry declined, the geisha quarter disappeared. In order to preserve the traditions of the area, volunteers have revived the beautiful street scenes, the general interest in which had faded over time.
To pass down the culture of the entertainment district, the number of young geisha has grown, to the point where there are now 20 geisha active in the area.
