Mitomi Dyeing Shop

This long-established business was founded in 1833. In the Edo Period (1603-1868), the shop served the Edo Shogunate as a craftsman, dyeing banners for battles and making indigo-dyed hanten. Later, the shop started dyeing the “Big-Catch Flag,” a flag that lets people know at the port that the returning fishing boat had a good catch and that all on board came back safely.
The traditional Big-Catch Flag is dyed by hand one by one. It has been selected as one of the “100 most famous products of Kanagawa.” People can also sign up for dyeing workshops here.
