Muryōkō-in Temple Remains

The Muryokoin temple was built by Hidehira, the third lord of the Oshu Fujiwara clan, in imitation of the Phoenix Hall of the Byodo-in temple in Uji.
All the buildings have been lost, but excavations have shown that it was larger than the Phoenix Hall, based on the arrangement of the foundation stones.
The centre line of the building is aligned with Mount Kinkei in the west, with the setting sun shining on the garden creating a masterpiece of "pure land" style.
