Takadachi Gikeidō Memorial

Takadate, a hill to the east of the Chuson-ji temple, is believed to be the place of the death of Minamoto no Yoshitsune. In his memory, the Yoshitsune Hall was built on the top of the hill overlooking the Koromo River by the lord of Sendai, Date Tsunamura.

Legend describes the Japanese warrior monk Benkei, defending his lord Yoshitsune, pierced by countless arrows whilst standing in the middle of a bridge as the Kitakami river flowed majestically below.
