Katsumata Castle Ruins

It is believed that the Katsumata clan built the Katsumata Castle in the mid 15th century. The yamajiro style castle is valuable as one that preserves the style that existed before the Sengoku period.
The castle fell during the battle with Yoshitada Imagawa.
The ridge that connects to the Makinohara Plateau is about 100 to 130 meters in elevation and is at the uppermost stream of the Katsumata river.
It spans about 200 meters from east to west and 310 meters from north to south, and it covers an area of 12,695 square meters.
At present, the castle's dorui (earthwork), kuruwa (the leveled site enclosed by the earthwork), and horikiri (neck ditch), etc., remain.
