Kumamoto Castle

One of the 3 Famous Castles of Japan.
The great daimyo Katō Kiyomasa oversaw the 7 year long construction of this famously impregnable castle until its completion in 1607.
The castle sustained major damages during the Kumamoto earthquake of 2016, and is currently undergoing reconstruction.
In June 2020, part 2 of the special reopening plan for the castle commenced, with a new 6 meter tall observation walkway being unveiled which allows visitors to get an up-close view of Kumamoto Castle as it undergoes its reconstruction.
The castle grounds are home to numerous cherry blossom trees, making it an excellent viewing spot when the leaves are in season.
