Suizenji Jojuen Park

The lord of Higa Province, Lord Tsunatoshi Hosokawa, built this garden to it's current scale in 1671, and in 1929 the park was designated as a national scenic spot and historic landmark.
Centered around a pond from which the waters of the Aso subterranean stream gush forth, half submerged pond stones and gentle, man-made rolling hills dot the landscape of this wonderful stroll garden, where you can witness the beauty of Kumamoto's underground waters and the splendor of the four seasons.
Additionally, the prestigious Kokin-Denju-no-Ma tearoom within the grounds was brought over from the Kyoto Imperial Palace and reconstructed here, giving visitors a charming spot to enjoy a beautiful view of the garden while enjoying some matcha tea and Japanese confectionary.
