Shonenji Temple

This is a Buddhist temple in which Yoshisada Nitta, who led the Southern Court during the period of the Northern and Southern dynasties and died in the battle of Tomyo-ji Nawate, is buried.
It is said that Akechi Mitsuhide, who fled from Mino during the Warring States period, lived in this temple 10 years.
The “legend of the black hair” says that his wife sold her own hair to gather funds to host a party held by Mitsuhide.
This event is commemorated in a verse by Matsuo Basho
"In the lonely moonlight, I will tell you the old story of Mitsuhide Akechi's wife." (It means that your thoughtfulness will be rewarded one day.)
