Kehara Temple Remains

At the foot of the mountain seen from the Kasama River, you can make out the remains of a full-fledged temple complex with 7 buildings, as large as the temple complexes of Heijo-kyo during the Nara period, including the foundations of the Golden Pavilion and Southern Gate, left as they were in the present settlement.
The rounded and flat roof tiles unearthed in the vicinity are all from the late Nara period, and excavations have found that they were made at a tile workshop further downstream from the temple remains.
The Kehara Temple Remains are also designated as the nation's Important Cultural Properties.
