Prince Shotoku's Beloved Dog Yukimaru

Prince Shotoku's Beloved Dog Yukimaru

Prince Shotoku's beloved dog Yukimaru was known as a highly intelligent dog, who could understand human speech, read Buddhist sutras, and who said before he died that he wanted to be buried to the northeast of Bodhidharma's grave.
Today, he is the official mascot of Oji, and if you walk around the city, you'll find statues, illustrations, and paws wherever you look.
The Yukimaru Mini Plaza, at the Regional Exchange Center, features Oji tourism information and exhibits related to Yukimaru, and Yukimaru Café Poem offers the Yukimaru cake "Yukima~ru," which you can take a break to enjoy, as well as a range of Yukimaru-themed goods.
