Koga Historical Museum

The Koga Historical Museum has been opened on the site of the former Koga Castle.
The museum was designed by Yoshida Keiji, taking advantage of the surrounding scenery, and won the AIJ (Architectural Institute of Japan) Award and the Public Building Award.
The permanent exhibits include academic materials collected and recorded by Takami Senseki, a retainer of the Koga domain, an overview of history from primitive antiquity to the modern era, and calligraphy and paintings by Okuhara Seiko and Kawanabe Kyosai.
In the hall, there is a street organ, a Dutch musical instrument, and you can enjoy its sound.
Every year at night on August 14 and 15, a “Yume Andon (=Dream Lanterns) and Evening Cool” event is held on the grounds to decorate the moat of the former Koga Castle with colored lights.
