Ichikawa handmade Japanese Paper Yume Kobo

Ichikawa handmade Japanese Paper is certified as Yamanashi Prefecture’s traditional local craft. Its origins go back to the Heian period.
Ichikawa’s Japanese paper started when the founder of Kai-Genji (Minamoto clan), Minamoto no Yoshikiyo, went to Ichikawa with the paper worker Jinzaemon to pass on excellent techniques.
Ichikawa’s Japanese paper was so fair, like the skin of a beautiful woman, and was called "Hadayoshigami (fair skin paper)."
The paper was appointed by the Takeda family Tokugawa Shogunate and was presented to them.
The manual papermaking industry was vibrant until the Meiji period, but it faced a decline after machine production was introduced, leaving only one craftsman who makes paper by hand today.
Ichikawa handmade Japanese Paper Yume Kobo was completed in March 2020, with two successors working at Yume Kobo.
This year, their main project was practicing papermaking and acquiring the techniques.
They also give out graduation certificates, handmaking workshops, and do paper manufacturing tests.
