Kichidenji Temple

It is said that the Kichidenji Temple is an imperial temple of Emperor Tenji.
It was founded by Eshin Sozu in 987
To the west of the main hall is a burial mound dedicated to the Emperor's sister, Princess Hashihito no himemiko.
The seated statue of Amitabha Tathagata, the largest statue in Nara prefecture, is called Joroku Amitabha Nyorai, and is also known as the "Great Buddha of Yamato".
A well proportioned statue of Dainichi Nyorai, the secret Buddha, is enshrined inside the pagoda built in the Muromachi period (1336-1573).

The Kichidenji Temple is also known by the name of "Pokkuri-dera".
The biggest annual event on the 1st of September is the 'Hojoe', when white pigeons are released, and carp and goldfish are introduced into the pond on the temple grounds.
