The Historic Site of Chuguji Temple

The present-day Chuguji Temple is adjacent to the east of the Horyu-ji Yumedono (Holl of Visions), although its original foundation lies about 500 m further east.
The Temple has been designated a national historic site and developed as a park.
Several excavations have revealed that the temple was built in the Shitennoji style, with the pagoda and Kondo (main hall) aligned, and in the same layout as that of the Ikaruga temple, built by Prince Shotoku.
At present, no trace of an auditorium or cloister has been found, suggesting that the temple may have been unfinished.
The foundation stones of the pagoda and Kondo have been reconstructed in the historical park.
