Site of Mii (Akazome Well)

The site of Mii (the Akazome Well) is in the old precinct of the Horinji Temple.
The Akazome Well was one of three wells dug by Prince Shotoku.
It was buried in the Meiji period (1868-1912), but then restored during the excavations in 1932 and then actually used until the end of the early 1960s.
The well is uniquely constructed from four square blocks of stone, with water flowing out through the gaps between them.
The side walls are cylindrical, with the tops of the blocks built of uneven stones and fan-shaped "eaves".
