Houses of the Tomoda Clan (Tomoda-ke)

The Tomoda family, whose houses are located about 13 kilometers upstream along the Yoshikawa River from the center of town, is an old family that has lived in this area since they moved here as defeated Heike warriors.
The houses that remain today were built 300 years ago during the Genroku era of the Edo period (the beginning of the 18th century), and their structure is known as the katakui-chigai type.
You can also see rare lattices such as protectors from wolves.
