Sengan Embankment / Seto Colored Rice Folk Museum

Someii (colored rice), which is a Tokaido staple, and Sengan embankment, the major embankment, are the main items on display in this museum.
Someii refers to a sort of rice ball that is made of rice that has been dyed yellow using gardenia fruit. Its history is said to date back to the Sengoku period, when it gained popularity as food that helps with tired legs.
Sengan embankment is an embankment with a length of 360m that was built at a tremendous cost of 1,000 kan in order to protect the village when the Oi River overflows. A portion of this embankment remains presently and has become a designated historic landmark of the city.
It is a constituent cultural property of Japan Heritage.
