Kasagata Jinja Shrine

Said to have been established in the Asuka period, this shrine was revered for granting safe passage across the Seto Inland Sea.
During Toyotomi Hideyoshi's invasion of Korea, he sent his retainers to the shrine as he returned to port from Hizen in order to receive its blessing.
The intricate and detailed engravings that decorate the shrine are characteristic of the Edo period, originating from those at the Nikko Tosho-gu Shrine.
