Ganryujima Island

With a circumference of 1.6km, Ganryujima Island floats in the Kanmon Straits.
The island is officially called Funajima (ship island) as it is shaped like a ship.
On April 13th, 1612, Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro had a duel on this island.
The island came to be called Ganryujima Island after the style of defeated Kojiro.
From the Karato Pier, the island takes about 10 minutes one way to reach on a Kanmon Ferry.
It is a “park on the sea” right in the middle of the Kanmon Straits.
There is a walking path along the ocean and an observation point with statues of Musashi and Kojiro where you can spend a relaxing time gazing at the boats going across the straits.
