Gokokuji Temple

Originally built as a prayer temple by the fifth shogun, Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, in 1681 at the request of his mother, Keishoin, it later became a war-related prayer temple for the shogun's family.
The temple's main hall is said to feature the very best of the Genroku era's architectural techniques.
Together with the Shoin-zukuri style "Gekkoden", which was relocated here from the former Omi province in 1928, this site has been designated as a nationally recognized important cultural property.
