Hakusan-Jinja Shrine

During the Tenryaku era (947-957) Shirayama Hime Shrine in the former Kaga province was transferred to present day Hongo 1-chome, and then later relocated to Sugamohara (where Koishikawa Botanical Garden currently is).
After that, before Tokugawa Tsunayoshi took on his role as the fifth shogun, it was moved to its current location so that he could build his estate there, and it became a place of worship for both Tsunayoshi and his mother, Keishoin.
The shrine features amazing hydrangeas that bloom during Japan's rainy season.
The site also features a stone that once seated the Chinese revolutionary Sun Yat-sen, as well as a commemorative monument. Also located there is Kanto Matsuno Shrine brought by way of Matsuno Taisha Shrine in Kyoto, which was established as offering to the deity of sake brewing.
