Miyake Tumuli Group

The Miyake Tumuli Group is a group of tumuli that spreads across the 3 towns of Shiki District (Kawanishi Town, Miyake Town, Tawaramoto Town) and reached its height of prosperity from the latter half of the 5th century to the first half of the 6th century.
Although it currently consists of 18 mounds centered around keyhole-shaped tumuli, it is assumed that originally there used to be more due to the existence of tumuli that have already vanished.
The entire area of Miyake Town is a tumuli group that, due to it being the assumed location of "Yamato Miyake", an area established to be directly controlled by Emperors Suinin and Kēkō during their time according to Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, has been pointed out to be related in some way.
Therefore, it has been drawing attention as an important archeological site for understanding the political and administrative system within the Nara basin after the mid-Kofun period.
