Hyotan Yama Tumulus

It is a keyhole-shaped tumulus that belongs to the Miyake Tumuli Group and, from survey results so far, it has become clear that it has an overall length of 40 meters and was built in the first half of the 6th century.
Haniwa figurines of cylindrical and various other shapes were excavated from the surrounding moat and, in particular, the dog-shaped haniwa figurine has the distinctive trait of zigzag line patterns carved from its forehead to the tip of its nose, which is a case that has never been discovered until now.
The dog-shaped haniwa figurine is on display at the Miyake Town Cultural Hall.
