National Treasure: Ganjoji Shiramizu Amida Temple

Fujiwara no Kiyohira's daughter, Tokuhime, is said to have erected the temple as a memorial for her husband, Michinori Iwaki.
This Amida Temple's architecture is representative of the late Heian Period. The beautifully curving roof and the Pure Land-style garden harmonize to create an elegance of form.
Lotuses bloom in the summer, while in the fall large gingko and maple trees create a beautiful riot of color.
The temple is the only building in Fukushima Prefecture designated as a national treasure.
