Akaidake Yakushi Jofukuji Temple

Located atop Akaidake Peak and looking out over the city, this is a popular spot for admiring the view of the plain spreading out into the distance.
With 1200 years of history, this ancient temple is certified by the Special Head Temple of Shingon Buddhism.
It is also a power spot which boasts majestic, giant cedar and cypress trees which are several hundred years old.
Every year on August 31st and September 1st, at the Saito Ogoma summer festival, also known as the "Fire Festival", is held.
The candlelit path to the temple presents an elegant scene, while the Shugendo practitioners garb themselves in itinerant monk's clothes and walk across the homa mandala barefoot in order to receive a blessing.
