Iwaki City Ammonite Center

The Ammonite Center was the first museum in Japan established in the same place where fossils were produced.
It displays many fossilized ammonite exactly as they were when they were unearthed.
But the biggest attraction is the ammonite digging experience!
After collecting your helmet, gloves, hammer, and chisel at the front desk, you can go to the outdoor excavation site and dig up some fossils.
You'll quickly lose track of time as you swing your hammer in your search for fossilized shellfish, shark teeth, and ammonites.
This super popular activity makes you feel like a real treasure hunter and is fun for kids and adults alike.
