Tachiarai Peace Memorial Museum
On this spot used to sit a great military city, centred on the Tachiarai air base, the largest in east Asia and the pride of the former Imperial Army.
As a kamikaze squadron relay base, many young pilots took off from this very spot.
However in March 1945 (Showa 20), the American air force destroyed the base in a raid with much loss of life.
Here we display some valuable documents to tell the history of Tachiarai air base and its military installments, the air raids and the kamikaze squadron.
We also introduce the air base's history through images and words in our theatre, continuing to impress the importance of peace.
