Tenonzan Gohyakurakanji Temple (Rakanji Temple)

The Tenonzan Gohyakurakanji temple, located just north-east of Meguro Fudo-son, was founded in 1695 in present-day Koto district.
The temple is famous for its over 300 sculptures modeled after the some 500 arhats, real-life disciples of Buddha, who gathered on his death.
The temple, also known as "Honjo no Rakan-san", prospered under the support of the fifth Tokugawa shogun, Tsunayoshi, and the eighth shogun, Yoshimune.
In 1908, it was relocated to its present location in Meguro district.
