Egara Tenjinsha Shrine
Along with Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Fukuoka Prefecture and Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto Prefecture, it is a representative shrine of the Tenjin faith (various theories exist).
Tenjin worship is a Shinto belief in Sugawara no Michizane, famous as the god of learning, who is worshipped as "Tenjin-sama."
The shrine buildings, painted vermilion, are gorgeous.
