Nora Dokei

Nora Dokei is the symbol of Aki City. It was created around 1887 by a landowner in the area, Gemma Hatanaka.
Mr. Hatanaka was interested in clocks and imported clocks from Europe to learn how they worked.
He made the clock by himself by hand, including its weights and gears.
The clock was the first in Kochi Prefecture to be registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.
