Ushi Tenjin Kitano-Jinja Shrine

There is a legend that Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate, rested here as he made his way eastward to go to war, and received a revelation in his dreams that night that two good things would happen to him.
As the revelation predicted, his son Yorike, who later became the second shogun, was born, and he won victory in the war. Afterwards, Yoritomo built a shrine here to express his gratitude.
A rock resembling a cow on which Yoritomo sat is enshrined at the side of the shrine and is the original "Nade-iwa," a rock that is said to grant wishes when stroked.
