"Konnyaku Enma" Genkakuji Temple

According to the tales, some time around 1751~1764, there was an old woman suffering from an eye disease who prayed daily to a statue of the god Enma.
Enma then appeared to her in a dream and told her that he would give her his own right eye. When the old woman awoke, her eye had suddenly healed. To express her gratitude, she began abstaining from her favorite food, konnyaku, as an offering to Enma.
Since then, the old woman has has become an object of worship by the name of "Konnyaku Enma".
A "Salt Jizo" statue, believed to alleviate toothaches, is also enshrined in the temple grounds.
