Sekiguchi Bashoan Garden

Matsuo Basho, the Edo period haiku poet, lived here for three years from 1677.
It's said that after his second visit to Edo he got involved in the repairs of the Kanda Waterworks, during which time he lived in the water guardhouse "Ryuinan" located here.
It later came to be known as "Bashoan" by Basho's admirers.
The current building was constructed after the war.
