Suttsu Jinja Shrine

Suttsu Jinja Shrine began in 1627, when ship called the Bentenmaru coming from Tsukushi Province (present-day Kyushu) was rescued from floundering in Suttsu Bay.
Offerings were made to the god Benzaiten, who was enshrined in the ship, in gratitude for its protection and the help of the local residents.
It is also well-known as a location to view cherry blossoms (sakura) who reach their full bloom around May of every year.
The cherry-colored main shrine building and the rows of cherry blossom trees leading to it give Suttsu jinja shrine a fantastic appearance.
