Bentenza

“Bentenza” was founded around the year 1900, when the wealthy male patrons of Akaoka all chipped in money to build a theater. At the time, public theater performances and movies were shown almost every day, and when showings ended, there was no end to the waves of the crowds of people.
However, the theater could not withstand the change in times, and customers eventually came less and less, leading to the theater regrettably closing. In the Heisei era, the theater was reborn with a whole new setup.
Equipped with a revolving stage, a 12-meter long walkway, and box seats, it was a true, authentic theater. With its “Ekin-kabuki” performances, it has become a center of cultural exchange that has exceeded the bounds of its region and time.
