Shounji Temple

This single-tiered Chinese-style Buddhist hall was built by a "Hida No Takumi" (a type of renowned woodworker) named Fujiwara no Shigekata around 540 years ago.
In 1941, it was designated as a National Treasure and is now a Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property, in accordance with the Cultural Preservation Law.
In addition, the 600-year-old Funagata Ubamegashi (Japanese cypress), which grows wild in the precincts of Shounji Temple, is a natural monument designated by Ehime Prefecture.
