Enzosan Daikoji Temple

The temple was founded in March 1395 by Tengan Soetsu Zenji, the 7th generation head of the Sōtō school and a direct descendant of the Eiheiji temple's founder, Dōgen Zenji, who was the founder of Sojiji temple in Tsurumi, Kanagawa Prefecture.
During the Muromachi period, the temple was patronized by Ikeda Castle's lord, the 5th generation of Ikeda-jō, and Ikeda's governor, Mitsumasa, who admired the Zen master's virtue, rebuilt the temple's halls and built a meditation hall called "Bokai-tei" on the mountain.
