Stone Buddha's Path

The area surrounding Joruri-ji Temple and Gansen-ji Temple is known as Odawara.
Temples and practicing grounds dating from the Heian and Kamakura periods are scattered in the area, and many buddhas were carved into the rock faces here.
These are stone buddhas that benevolently watch over travellers and also serve as signposts for them.
The Stone Buddha's path slopes gently downwards in the direction of Joruri-ji Temple from Gansen-ji Temple.
The stone buddhas are spread out across the village of Tono. Along the walking trail, visitors can find booths offering seasonal vegetables, and they can also enjoy the beautiful mountain village scenery in all seasons.
The path is roughly 2km long, and takes an hour to traverse by foot.
