Kamikoma Tea Wholesaler Street

Kamikoma was a crucial transport hub for water transportation from Kizugawa. Due to its key location, a small community of tea wholesalers sprung up in Kamikoma.
Also known as Higashi-Kobe and Ima-Kobe in the past, there were 120 tea wholesalers situated in the area.
Roughly 30 buildings that housed tea wholesalers that date from the end of the Edo era, through the Meiji and Taishō era until the early Shōwa era still stand in Kamikoma, earning it the nickname "Tea Wholesaler Street".
In 2014, a monument honoring Yamashiro's tea industy was erected here, in commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the founding of the Yamashiro Tea Industry Cooperative.
