Gansenji Temple

According to the temple's records, Gansenji was established as a Buddhist temple for the worship of Amitabha by the Buddhist priest Gyōki in 729, at the behest of Emperor Shōmu.
The temple's principal idol is a statue of Amida Nyorai, which is renowned for being a Buddhist statue representative of the 10th century.
The three-story pagoda (Muromachi period) is considered to be a representative architectural work of the late Middle Ages, and it is designated as an important cultural property.
Aside from hydrangeas, many other flowers bloom here in every season, earning Gansen-ji the name of "The Flower Temple".
