Sugiyama Kengyo / Fukuishi (Lucky stone)

Kengyo Sugiyama (real name Waichi Sugiyama) was an acupuncturist in the Edo period.
He achieved the status of Sokengyo (grand master) of the Kanto region after he cured Tsunayoshi Tokugawa, one of the five great shoguns of the Edo shogunate, of an illness.
However, it is said that the insertion tube (shinkan) acupuncture technique he used at that time was taught to him by Benzaiten Enoshima.
Waichi Sugiyama devised the insertion tube technique here, when he stumbled over a stone and got pricked in the hand by a pine needle wrapped in a leaf that he happened to pick up.
Since then it has been said that if you pick up objects here you will be blessed with good fortune, so it has come to be called Fortune Rock.
