Nayoro City has one of the most beautiful starlit skies in Japan, and despite its proximity to the city center, Kitasubaru has little light pollution.
This means that on a clear night you can see a night sky full of stars.
The Pilika Telescope, the second largest telescope in Japan, is installed at the observatory, allowing visitors to observe the stars.
The observatory also has a planetarium that shows projections four times a day, even on cloudy days.
