Kumagawa-juku Historic Post Town

Kumagawa-juku is an inn town that developed as a trading center between Wakasa and Kyoto.
Wakasa prospered in trade as a miketsukuni (country of food) that delivered the bounty of the mountains and sea to Kyoto. The Wakasa Kaido, which runs through the inn town, was also called Saba Kaido (mackerel highway) because it carried mackerel and other fish from the sea (Sea of Japan) to Kyoto.
The traditional townscape, with its rows of old-fashioned buildings along the road, is one of Fukui's representative historical resources, conveying the bustle of those days.
Kumagawa-juku, blessed with culture and nature, is full of attractions that attract many people.
