Fukuroda Falls

The scenic spot of Japan, Fukuroda Falls

Fukuroda Falls has an impressive size of 120 meters in height and 73 meters in width. It is a famous tourist spot in Ibaraki Prefecture and is one of the top three great falls in Japan. The fall flows down the great rocky cliff over four steps, so the fall is also called "Yodono (four times) fall.” This nickname is said to have been named when Saigyouhoushi visited this place and highly praised the fall, saying, “To truly appreciate this waterfall, one must come here for each of the four seasons."
Fukuroda Falls was designated on March 10th, 2015, as one of the scenic spots of Japan, and in October of the same year, it was selected as a sacred place for lovers (by NPO Japan Center for Regional Development) and the tunnel lighting was renewed in 2023.
