Former Uwaoka Elementary School
The former Uwaoka Elementary School was established in 1879. In 1911, the school location was moved to the present location, and the first school building was built.
The first school building is the second oldest wooden primary school building in Ibaraki Prefecture.
It is the oldest primary school building in the Prefecture that has been preserved.
After the closure of the school, a group consisting of mainly local people called "Uwaoka Elementary School Preservation Association," is working on the maintenance and management of the building.
In recent years, the building has been open to the public and is actively used as a location to shoot movies.
